Almost 63,000 visa applications to Ireland were refused across 2024 and 2025, according to official figures reported by The Sun.
Data has shown that over 321,000 applications were approved, representing an overall approval rate of more than 80 per cent.
Over 205,000 applications were decided in 2025, with 161,084 granted and 34,089 refused, resulting in an approval rate of roughly 82.5 percent.
Furthermore, the data outlines that approval rates varied by nationality, with Indian nationals recording one of the highest success rates of 92 percent.
On the other end, applicants from Burundi had an approval rate of just over 8 per cent, while Cameroon, Togo and Gambia also saw high refusal levels.
Several countries with low application volumes, such as Bhutan, Montenegro and Papua New Guinea, saw approval rates of 100 percent.
Checks carried out during the visa assessment process include passport examination passports, financial documentation, and to pay extra attention to large or unexplained deposits made shortly before a submitted application.
The figures come as a Freedom of Information request after the Department initially declined to publish such detailed statistics, due to concerns related to immigration controls.
