We’re pretty sure this was the plot of an episode of Murder, She Wrote we saw once.

If we’ve said it once we’ve said it a thousand times, if you plan on doing anything illlegal, make sure there isn’t a talking parrot around who can rat you out to the cops later.

That age-old bit of advice was ignored by a murder in India, who now finds himself in a cage, just like the parrot. Ironic, eh?

According to report in the Times of India, and also carried in TIME magazine, a 45-year-old woman named Neelam Sharma was murdered in the city of Agra, famed for the Taj Mahal. The local police were struggling with the case until her pet parrot Hercules stepped in.

Neelam’s husband noticed that the bird was acting a bit odd whenever a nephew of the dead woman named Ashutosh came to visit the house.

“During discussions too, whenever Ashutosh’s name was mentioned, the parrot would start screeching,” said the husband. “This raised my suspicion and I informed the police.”

Incredibly, when questioned by police, Ashutosh confessed to the crime. When the case goes to court, we wonder will Hercules be called to the stand?
