Over the past few days, Met Éireann has issued several weather warnings urging people to be mindful of snow and ice.

This advice is especially important for motorists, driving in treacherous conditions.

However, Gardaí found one driver during a recent checkpoint, conducted by Ennis Traffic on the M18, who was allegedly driving no less than 71 kilometres per hour over the speed limit.

Gardaí uploaded a photo to their Twitter account yesterday of the speed camera reading 191 kilometres per hour. The photo was accompanied by the message “Ennis Gardaí; Checkpoint conducted by Ennis Traffic on the M18 , number of detections, highest speed recorded 191kph in 120kph zone, please slow down.”

Gardaí recently released data that reveals an average of 32 people per year have been killed on Irish roads in the months of November and December for the past decade.
