What's up 'Shorty'?

What’s up ‘Shorty’?

The record for the world’s smallest cow currently stands at 61.5 centimetres but we have a moo contender to the throne and she hails from Ballinacarrick, Co Donegal.

A tiny calf named Shorty was born was on Friday night, she weighs a minuscule 18 kilos and is little over a foot in height, and is aiming to reclaiming Ireland’s place in the Guinness Book of Records as having the world’s shortest cow.

The calf belongs to James Vance’s family and hails from famous stock, she’s the daughter of Ruby and grand-daughter of Ella who last year competed for the prestige of being the world’s smallest cow.

James and his wife Laura have every confidence that the newborn calf could bring the title back to Ireland.

Speaking with The Mirror, James said ““She is the smallest calf I have ever seen. She is little more than half-way up my wellie.”

When you consider that the calf isn’t even waist high on the young child in the photo, it will give you an indication of just how small the calf is compared to other cattle. It’s more like a large cat than a calf…
