Senator Lorraine Higgins tweeted this abusive message today.
Very few issues have encouraged as much debate and protests in Irish society quite like the water charges have, but there’s a correct way of engaging in political debate and protest.
Senator Lorraine Higgins has unfortunately been exposed to the ugly side of political opinion though, after she was subjected to a barrage of abusive and hateful messages.
She chose to share on Twitter earlier today a shocking message she had received.

The Seanad spokesperson on Foreign Affairs,Trade, & Reform had a similar issue to contend with at the start of the month when she spoke out about a troll who had sent her a stream of abusive messages and death threats.
At the time, Ms Higgins reported these threats to the Gardaí.
Regardless of your political stance, no one should have to put up with this kind of vile vitriol.
