The saga continues...
Following the
outrage surrounding
the murder of Cecil the Lion in Zimbabwe on July 1, hunter Dr Walter Palmer has released a short statement in an attempt to clear his name.
In the statement, the hunter says he did not know the lion was collared or was a known local favourite.
The statement, released to an American journalist, goes on to say he has not been contacted by the authorities in relation to the incident.
The Minnesota dentist also said he thought everything about his hunt had been legal and proper.
The statement finishes the hunter expressing some regret for his actions.
"Again, I deeply regret that my pursuit of an activity I love and practice responsibly and legally resulted in the taking of this lion."
