A statue of former President of the United States of America Barack Obama, holding hands with the former First Lady Michelle Obama, has been unveiled at Offaly’s Obama Plaza.
Cody Keenan, a speechwriter for Obama during his time in office, gave a speech at the unveiling.
Ciaran Cannon, Minister for the Diaspora and International development, shared a photo of Keenan posing with the statue, as well as Supermac’s MD Pat McDonagh.
A photo of the statue can be seen below. We certainly can imagine that there’ll be many-an-Instagram photo taken at this site in the future. And we can all be thankful that it didn’t end up the way that some statues do.
Delighted to meet @codykeenan wordsmith extraordinaire as he unveiled a new statue of @BarackObama & @MichelleObama at the Barack Obama Plaza in Moneygall. Congrats to Pat McDonagh MD of @SupermacsIRE on a wonderful event & for his support for so many communities across Irl. pic.twitter.com/yTinKw2OsU

Barack Obama Plaza is located in Moneygall, Co. Offaly, which is Obama’s ancestral home. Obama visited the town while he was President, back in 2011, meeting distant relatives and drinking a pint of Guinness there.
