We’re sure road bowling in “clerical grab” would be an unfair advantage… of some sort.
The good folk over at the Irish Times rarely get their facts wrong, but when they do they make sure to correct the error in their Corrections & Clarifications section of the paper.
Recently, they wrote the obituary of road bowling champion Mick Barry, but they made a slight error while referring to Bishop John Buckley, who often played with Mr Barry.
Here’s what the paper wrote last Saturday, which is still up on The Irish Times website today (December 27): “Bishop John Buckley of Cork and Ross, an aficionado of the sport, who often played against him in his cassock, said Barry had done for bowling what Christy Ring did for hurling.”
Needless to say, the way The Irish Times worded their correction was absolutely priceless…
