A petition with 383,145 signatures has been generated looking to stop Zimbabwe’s president Robert Mugabe from issuing hunting permits to kill endangered animals.

People are outraged after the killing of 13 year old Cecil the lion who was shot with a bow and arrow and then tracked for 40 hours before getting shot with a rifle.

The petition tells the story of how Cecil the lion was kicked out of his pride three and a half years ago and he teamed up with another loner lion Jericho to regain control of two prides.

Now, without Cecil, Jericho and the rest of the pride are in danger of being killed.

The hunter who killed Cecil, Dr Walter Palmer,  released a statement saying he was unaware the lion he killed was a well-known local favourite and stressed that everything about his trip was legal.

The petition can be found here.
