Slow down, folks.
National Slow Down Day, an annual operation aimed at reducing the number of speed-related collisions, saving lives and reducing injuries on Irish roads, came into effect at 7am on Friday morning.
The Gardai had confirmed in advance that there would be high visibility speed enforcement activities to include all 1,031 speed enforcement zones across the country, as well as the delivery of a road safety message through the use of national, local and social media.
The Gardai have been issuing updates about the progress of the operation on Twitter this morning, with GoSafe speed vans and Garda checkpoints set up at locations such as Stillorgan, Tullamore, Castleblaney, Adare and Mortarstown in Carlow.
