Rain, rain go away, come again another day…

Parts of Ireland have been severely affected by heavy rain and flash flooding over the last 24 hours with the northern half of the country the worst affected.

Severe flooding has been reported in Donegal, Derry and other places in the north as the heavy rain wreaks havoc in the areas.

Malin Head in Donegal recorded 40mm of rain on Tuesday, but over 80mm of rain has been reported in some areas.

The below video by Donegal Weather Channel shows the extent of the flooding on rural roads.

There’s been mudslides in some areas.

BBC weatherman and journalist Barra Best shared some photos (sent by the public) of the flooding in the north.

Several community centres opened their doors for motorists who had to abandon their cars and for families who had to leave their homes due to the flooding.

Motorists are being urged to be wary and not to speed in potentially flooded areas.
