We don’t know exactly what’s going on here, but we think it could be something to do with Michelle Obama, who does not look impressed throughout.
If ‘selfie’ being selected as the word of 2013 didn’t show how out of control photography of the self and the use of that word has become, then it really hit home when Barack Obama, David Cameron and Danish Prime Minister Helle Thorning-Schmidt decided to pose for a little leader’s selfie at a service for the late Nelson Mandela in South Africa today.
While a little cringe-worthy, it was all in good fun, but the mood obviously turned a little sour shortly afterwards, as was evident in a series of pictures featuring Obama, Thorning-Schmidt and Obama’s wife Michelle.

First of all, Barack and Helle seem to be having a great laugh while Michelle sits there stony-faced, then Helle seems to take exception to something someone said while Michelle sits there stony-faced and then, in the final picture of the three, Barack and Michelle have switched seats while nobody is talking to one another… while Michelle sits there stony-faced.
We don’t know what happened but the atmosphere obviously changed as quickly as it does when somebody lets off an ill-timed fart in the pub but rather than blame it on the first lady, we blame it on selfies because we’re sick and tired of them too.
Totes awks, as the kids might say.
