Pilots in two different planes report UFO sighting in the same location within minutes of each other

Somebody call Mulder and Scully…

Two commercial airline pilots reported a UFO sighting in the same location in Arizona last month, according to audio released by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) in the US this week.

Audio of conversations with regional air traffic controllers in Albuquerque released by the FAA indicates that a pilot of a Learjet plane and a pilot of an American Airlines plane reported an unidentified flying object within minutes of each other on February 24.

The conversation, as you’ll hear approximately 30 seconds into the video below, was a little surreal to say the least…

According to CNN, when pressed further about the object, the American Airlines pilot doubted that it was a weather balloon, but described it as having “a big reflection” and “travelling several thousand feet above us, going the opposite direction”.

The FAA, however, perhaps keen to ridicule some of the more far-fetched theories about the UFO, suggested that a weather balloon was the most likely explanation.

“We have a close working relationship with a number of other agencies and safely handle military aircraft and civilian aircraft of all types in that area every day, including high-altitude weather balloons,” an FAA spokesperson said.

For those of a more conspiratorial mindset, however, it was interesting to note that the object in question was sighted not far from Roswell in New Mexico, where a flying object – described by the US military as a conventional weather balloon – famously crashed in 1947.

While the most obvious explanation – a weather balloon – is probably the most likely one, it won’t stop some more imaginative people concocting more imaginative theories about this particular sighting, which is certainly more convincing than one in Leitrim a few years’ back.
