As crazy a story as we’ve seen all year.

The entire police force of the Mexican town of Ocampo has been detained, following a murder that took place last Thursday.

A politician named Fernando Ángeles Juárez was shot dead ahead of general elections set to take place in Mexico on 1 July.

He became the third politician to be killed in the area of Michoacán in just over a week.

Less than 24 hours beforehand, Omar Gomez, an independent candidate for mayor of Aguililla, also in Michoacan, was shot dead.

Twenty eight officers in Ocampo, Michoacán, in western Mexico have been taken in for questioning by the police’s internal affairs department, following the murder.

Mexican federal agents attempted to arrest Ocampo’s public security secretary, Oscar Gonzalez Garcia, but were prevented by local police officers.

On Sunday, they came back and arrested him and the town’s entire police force.

This police force in particular are being accused of having links with organised crime groups.

Mexico will go to the polls next Sunday to vote for a new president.
