Poll shows that Fianna Fáil are by far the most popular political party in the country

It’s their highest opinion poll rating since 2008.

An Irish Times/Ipsos MRBI poll has revealed a massive surge in popularity for Fianna Fáil, with a nine per cent increase to 33 per cent, their highest approval rating in an Irish Times poll since the financial crash in 2008.

As well as the increase in popularity for the party in general, Micheál Martin is easily the most popular political leader, with a satisfaction rating of 43%.

The Irish Times poll was conducted on Monday and Tuesday of this week amongst a representative sample of 1,200 people over the age of 18; the margin of error was 2.8%.

The poll revealed that 33% of voters said they would vote for Fianna Fáil in a general election (up 9%), 24% said they would vote for Fine Gael (down 2%) and 16% said they would vote for Sinn Féin (up 2%).

There was further bad news for Labour, whose approval rating dropped to 5% (down 2%), while Independents/Others took a battering after their approval rating sunk to 22% (down 8%).
