An Post has announced it will increase the price of stamps from the middle of March onwards.

A standard domestic stamp will increase from €1 to €1.10 from 19 March, while the price of an international stamp will also increase by 10 cent to €1.80.

An Post said while the changes will come into effect from mid-March, existing stamps will remain valid after that date.

The hike is in line with European averages according to An Post, who said letter prices across Europe reflect the steady decline in traditional letter volumes globally due to e-substitution.

All stamps bearing the ‘N’ denomination will automatically represent €1.10 postage from 19 March. Similarly, all ‘W’ stamps will cover the new €1.80 international letter rate.

Any additional postage may be purchased at any post office, such as a €0.10c stamp, to make up the difference.

An Post is currently working on a new fully-automated sorting facility for smaller parcels and packages at the Dublin Mails Centre in Clondalkin which will process 70,000 items daily.
