The Ukrainian Embassy in Ireland has condemned a pro-Russia demonstration that took place in Dublin over the weekend.

The embassy posted a video of the convoy, along with a strongly worded message calling for the ban of such demonstrations.

“It’s absolutely disgusting that these russians living in Ireland demonstrate their complete disrespect for country of residence & the Irish people who stand against russia’s war in Ukraine,” the Embassy tweeted.

“Russia’s ‘Z’, the symbol of killings & atrocities, must be prohibited by law in every democratic state.”

In the video, several cars are seen with a combination of Irish flags and Russian flags, along with a “Z” symbol.

The “Z” symbol has been used as a pro-war symbol in Russia, with the Russian Ministry of Defence saying that the symbol stands for za pobedu (for victory).

“Such rallies & Russian Z swastika should be prohibited!,” tweeted Larysa Gerasko, the Ukrainian Ambassador to Ireland.

“This ‘show’ took place in Dublin today.”

Two Irish diplomats were asked to leave the Irish Embassy in Moscow last week.

The Department of Foreign Affairs shared the news in a statement last Thursday evening (7 April).

“The Ambassador of Ireland to the Russian Federation was summoned to the Foreign Ministry in Moscow this afternoon and informed that two diplomats from our Embassy in Moscow have been asked to leave,” said Minister for Foreign Affairs Simon Coveney.

“There is no justification for the taking of this measure.

“The staff at the Embassy of Ireland in Moscow do not have, nor are engaged in, any duties or functions which are incompatible with their diplomatic status.

“This decision to reduce the size of our relatively small Embassy in Moscow will significantly reduce our ability to provide services to our citizens in Russia and to maintain diplomatic channels of communication with the Russian Federation.”
