Public warned against swimming in two Dublin beaches due to sewage

Take note…

Warnings against bathing have been issued for Loughshinny and Rush South beaches due to the suspected presence of sewage.

Fingal county council have issued a Do Not Swim notice for both beaches.

Routine samples at both beaches revealed the high levels of microbial contamination.

The beaches have remained open, but the public have been warned against swimming in the water with the HSE advising to stay out of the water until the levels return to normal.

The sample was taken on Monday with another sample taken on Thursday to assess whether it’s suitable to lift the Do Not Swim notice.

Bundoran beach in Donegal also has a swimming restriction in place following heavy rainfall which may have an impact on the quality of the water.

Members of the public intending to enter the water at any beach in Ireland are advised to check the water quality in advance by accessing the EPA website at www.beaches.ie or checking the notice board at the entrance to each beach.
