The residents of Pearse House in Dublin’s city centre have protested outside the offices of Dublin City Council after claiming that their current accommodation is infested with rats.

The protesters state that the number of construction sites in the area has led to this increase in rats and they’re calling on the Housing Minister to come down and inspect the complex for himself.

In an interview with FM104, the residents have stressed the severity of the health and safety issues that need to be addressed.

A spokesperson said:  “Let him come down and live in one of our flats and see if he likes it. I bet he has a comfy home with proper heating, proper washing facilities, no mould, no rats living around him. Tell him to come down and see the flats and see how he feels. Tell him to live for one day in them.”

In an interview with RTÉ, Sarah Oglesby, a resident in the complex, has said that she has been out of her home for the last three weeks due to this infestation.
