Man (40s) dies following road traffic collision in Wicklow

The incident took place on Sunday evening.

Gardaí based at Ashford in Wicklow are investigating a single-vehicle fatal road traffic collision that occurred on Sunday, 23 February.

At approximately 7.50pm, a car is believed to have collided with a ditch on the L2166 near Glenealy Village. Following the incident, Gardaí and emergency services attended the scene.

A male driver – the sole occupant of the car – was fatally injured after the collision.

At the time of writing on Sunday night, the L2166 at Glenealy has been closed off to the public so that an examination by Garda forensic collision investigators may take place.

Local diversions have been put in place.

Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have information regarding the incident, particularly any road users with camera footage who were travelling on the L2166 on Sunday evening, to contact Ashford Garda Station on 0404 492 20.
