Road Safety Authority issue warning to road users following Ophelia

Be careful.

Take care on the roads.

The Road Safety Authority (RSA) has advised people to remain vigilant in the aftermath of storm Ophelia and expect the unexpected as many roads will be treacherous.

According to the RSA: “When storm Ophelia has passed the danger to road users will still be present. Many roads around the country will be blocked and treacherous with downed trees, branches and pylons.

“Council workers and emergency services will be out clearing these routes and people need to anticipate encountering these scenarios when using the roads.

“On coastal routes there will still be a risk of encountering flooded roads. Drivers need to slow down, keep an extra distance from the vehicle in front and expect the unexpected.”

They also warned pedestrians and cyclists to be aware of potential hazards on the roads.

AA Roadwatch have released a complete list of all the roads that are closed throughout the country due to Storm Ophelia, and you can view that full list here.

The RSA also reminded road users to obey any road closures or detours that An Garda Síochána or Local Authorities put in place, for further information on these, check with your local authority website or social media account.

In other news, Dublin Bus, the DART, Bus Éireann and Irish Rail have announced that all their services will run on Tuesday, but there will be delays on some routes.

You can find out more information on that here.
