A man arrested on Thursday appeared in court on Friday morning.

An Garda Síochána have arrested a second man as part of an investigation into an eviction dispute in Roscommon in December.

A man in his 50s was arrested following a search conducted in Donegal. The man was arrested under the provisions of Section 30 of the offences against the state Act, 1939. He is currently detained at Castlerea Garda Station.

A 54-year-old man arrested in Mayo on Thursday (10 January) as part of the same investigation appeared in court on Friday morning.

The man was brought before a special sitting of Castlerea District Court, where he was remanded in custody to appear at Harristown District Court on 18 January.

Both arrests were made as part of an investigation into an eviction dispute in Strokestown in December, when security personnel working for KBC bank at the house were attacked by a group of people.

A gang armed with baseball bats stormed the house at Falsk, near Strokestown, from which a family had been evicted days earlier, beating the security personnel inside.

Eight people were injured in the attack, three of whom required treatment in hospital.

Four vehicles were also burned out and one dog was killed.
