The warning is set to be in place for 24 hours.

Several counties have been hit with a weather warning over 'heavy showers and possible thunderstorms'.

Clare, Donegal, Galway, Leitrim Mayo and Sligo have all been issued a yellow warning by Met Éireann.

The warning will be in place from 6pm today, Wednesday, August 27, until tomorrow, Thursday, August 28.

The meteorological service has warned of the possibility of significant rainfall accumulations from heavy showers and longer spells of rain, as well as isolated thunderstorms.

Additionally, localised flooding, poor visibility, and difficult travelling have all been named as potential impacts of the conditions.

Alan O'Reilly from Carlow Weather also warned those in the west and northwest of heavy rainfall.

The Irish winter is coming in hot (or rather cold and rainy).
