'Sex for rent' stories are on the rise across Ireland.
Adverts that are offering free or reduced prices for rooms in exchange for sex have been discovered since the housing crisis has worsened in Ireland.
An investigation by the
Irish Examiner found ads offering properties in Limerick and Dublin in exchange for sexual favours for cheaper rentals.
Minister for Housing Darragh O'Brien has since condemned the ads and urged tenants to contact the Gardaí regarding those they come across.
He also told the
Irish Times that he has sought advice on extending rent pressure zone across the country.
According to the Examiner, one ad was showing a house in Newcastlewest, Limerick that was looking for a single lady "with a twist", with the ad saying:
"Can do reduced rent for occasional fun."
Looking into the advertisement further, the landlord said that sexual activity was required on a weekly basis and then rent would be reduced to €200 for the first month and €250 each month after.
Another ad showed a property in Dublin that was offering a room for free in exchange for a "friends with benefits" deal.
The ad says:
“Hey currently have a room to rent in North county Dublin, not looking to rent for cash but instead a fwb situation. Strictly applies to females, no males will be considered.”
A third asked for a "sweet cute and charming girl only".
The advertiser wrote:
“House located in Santry Dublin, so close to city, free car park and bus stop at home.. Let's chat soon. Note please only for sweet cute and charming girl only...Hahahaha Ping me soon, NSA.”
