Gardaí investigating after shotgun and machete used in Cork robbery

The incident took place on Thursday afternoon.

Gardaí have issued an appeal to the public following an armed robbery in Ballinhassig, Cork, in which a both a shotgun and a machete were used.

At approximately 3pm on Thursday (9 September), two men wearing masks entered the post office section of a shop, demanding a sum of money.

One of the men was armed with a shotgun while the second individual was armed with a machete. Both men subsequently fled the scene in a grey Citroën C3 vehicle.

No injuries were reported in relation to the incident.

It is believed that a third man was driving the vehicle in question. The suspects drove away in direction of Spur Hill / Liberty Hill. At approximately 4.20pm, the vehicle was located on fire in a nearby field.

Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the robbery to come forward. Anyone present on Spur Hill Road between 3.45pm and 4.30pm on Thursday is asked to make contact with investigating Gardaí.

Gardaí are particularly keen to speak with any road users travelling in the area at the time that may have dash cam footage.
