Sky News is heading to Dublin to open up a brand new bureau in the hope of strengthening its presence here in Ireland and they have chosen the capital as their base to do so. Darren McCaffrey, who is currently the UK Political Correspondent at Sky News, will become Dublin Correspondent after spending seven years reporting on current affairs in Westminister. The Fermanagh native, who also spent nine years on duty in the London area, will be permanently placed in Dublin and will be dedicated to covering all things Irish along with his Sky News crew. McCaffrey will be supported by Sky News' longstanding Irish correspondent, David Blevins, who will continue to cover news across the country also. https://twitter.com/DMcCaffreySKY/status/880150111464157185 John Ryley, Head of News at Sky, said in a statement: “With a post-Brexit world upon us there has never been a better time to expand our presence in Ireland." He sang the praises of his new Irish reporter also. "Darren is a great talent and he will work alongside David Blevins to ensure we have comprehensive coverage across the entire country, bringing the latest news and analysis to our viewers both north and south, in the UK and around the world.” McCaffrey too was also relishing the new challenge: "Brexit is not just an issue for Britain but presents threats and opportunities here in Ireland too. "It will be a fascinating time to return home to cover decisions to be made in Dublin, decisions which will shape these two islands and indeed Europe for years to come. And having grown up on the border, it gives me the opportunity to reflect the concern and complicated issues affecting people there and across Ireland." Sky employs just under 1000 people in Ireland with over 750 of those based at its Head Office in Burlington Road in Dublin.
