Sleet, snow and freezing temperatures promised as winter shows no sign of going away

Conor Heneghan

Weather

March might have arrived but there’s no sign of spring just yet.

We’re officially into spring, but it certainly doesn’t feel like it Ireland given the weather we’ve been experiencing of late.

Following the havoc caused by Storm Doris last week, there would appear to be no let-up in the wintry conditions, with Met Éireann forecasting hail, sleet and snow from Thursday right through until the end of the weekend.

If it’s not sleet and snow, rain is likely to fall instead, with “heavy downpours” promised on Thursday, when temperatures will drop sharply in the afternoon to as low as -3 on Thursday night.

There are more heavy downpours and even some flooding promised on Friday, when some snow will fall – mainly in higher areas – with variable winds and the possibility of frost and icy patches again on Friday night.

The cold and unsettled weather, with gale force winds for good measure, will continue throughout the weekend, although there is some consolation in that there will be some sunny spells in places.

Great.
