Fire

Awful news.

The Lakers Special Needs Club in Bray, Co. Wicklow last night was severely damaged by a fire. All of the buses used by the club have been destroyed beyond the point of use.

Lakers Social & Recreational Club is a community-based sports, social and recreation club for children and adults with an intellectual disability.

A statement released by Lakers confirmed that the club would be closed until further notice.

“We are devastated to inform everyone that there was a fire in our centre last night and we will be closed until further notice. No one was injured or hurt as it happened during night.

“We are trying our best to contact all members and volunteers so please be patient with us.”

Wicklow TD Simon Harris visited the scene to speak with those affected, and published a statement of his own: “This is a devastating day for our community. Please help if you can at all – they need a temporary venue and transport. I am meeting them again on Monday to see how we can best help.

“We live in a great community – let’s do what we do best and support Lakers at this difficult time.”

Anyone who wants to provide any assistance to Lakers can contact them through their Facebook page or their website.
