Earlier in the year, the jury in the Stardust inquests reached a verdict of unlawful killing in the case of all 48 deaths.
The Cabinet is set to sign off on a €24 million redress scheme for the families of the victims of the Stardust fire, according to multiple outlets.
48 people died in the fire at the Stardust nightclub in Artane in Dublin on February 14, 1981.
Just this year in April, the jury in the Stardust inquests reached a verdict of unlawful killing in the case of all 48 deaths – giving the families of the deceased closure after 43 years.
A state apology was subsequently delivered by Taoiseach Simon Harris in Dáil Éireann.
Now, several news outlets are reporting that the Cabinet will hold an online meeting on Friday afternoon (9 August).
It is understood that during this meeting, the Taoiseach and Justice Minister Helen McEntee will raise a memo seeking Cabinet approval for the redress scheme.
Reports also state that the details of the scheme have already been agreed with by the families affected by the Stardust tragedy.
