The fog is staying around a little longer.

Met Éireann has extended its status orange fog warning for the entire country until 2am on Friday (12 January), so extra caution should be taken by any motorists later this evening.

The warning was issued in the early hours of Thursday morning, at 2am, and was initially expected to remain in effect until 10am.

However, Met Éireann said that the fog will linger in many inland areas this evening and later into the night, away from coastal areas, which will lead to poor driving conditions.

The fog is also expected to become more extensive and dense on Thursday evening and for a time tonight.
