Status yellow rain wind warnings

Stay dry, stay warm.

Met Éireann has issued status yellow rainfall and wind warnings for the entire country as difficult weather continues to make its presence felt.

It follows a status yellow gale warning that was issued on Friday morning – 14 December – concerning coastal areas nationwide and another yellow warning set for all of Saturday.

That previous Saturday warning indicated the “potential for severe weather” and it would appear that treacherous conditions are indeed on the way.

The latest advisory from Met Éireann promises heavy rain throughout Saturday, which is expected to lead to accumulations of 30 to 50 millimetres.

It is forecast that some mountainous areas will exceed those particular limits.

The warning was issued on Friday morning at 10am and is valid from Saturday at midnight until midnight Sunday.

In addition to that, Met Éireann has also issued a new status yellow wind warning, with south to southeasterly winds set to increase and reach 55 to 60 kilometres per hour during Saturday morning.

The winds will be generally strongest in the east and will veer west to northwest later on Saturday afternoon. Severe gusts of 90 to 110 kilometres per hour are possible, and those limits may even be exceeded for a time.

That warning is also valid from midnight Saturday until midnight Sunday.
