Status Yellow warning issued as heavy rainfall expected

Rain, rain, go away...

One county is set to have a wet and wild start to 2022, as Met Éireann have issued a Status Yellow weather warning in anticipation of heavy rainfall.

Donegal has been issued the warning, which is set to come into effect tonight from midnight onwards.

The warning is in place from midnight on Monday (3 January) until 3pm.

Met Éireann is expecting heavy showers, which may result in some rivers flooding as well as some localised surface flooding.

The rest of the country will be breezy with clear spells tonight, as blustery showers continue to push in from the Atlantic.

The rain will be most frequent in the west and north where some will be heavy and prolonged.

Lowest temperatures of 4 to 8 degrees are expected along with strong and gusty winds.

Showers will continue in the northern part of the country on Monday, while the south should remain dry with sunny spells and some scattered showers.
