It’s a grim enough weekend out there.

Ireland has been hit with several weather warnings this week as strong winds, outbreaks of heavy rain and generally terrible conditions take hold.

On Saturday morning (8 December), Met Éireann issued a status yellow wind warning for three counties, highlighting difficult weather in Clare, Cork and Kerry.

As of late Saturday afternoon, Galway has been added to the mix, with the warning valid from 6pm tonight until Sunday morning at 6am.

Met Éireann note that west to northwest winds will reach mean speeds of 55 to 60 kilometres per hour with gusts of 90 to 110 km/h expected in Kerry and in the west of Cork, Clare and Galway.

Meanwhile, a similar gale force warning has been issued for coastal areas across the country, with westerly winds expected to reach gale force on Irish coastal waters from Belfast Lough to Mizen Head to Malin Head and on the Irish Sea.

Strong gales should be anticipated on Saturday night between Mizen Head and Loop Head.
