The park will change its environment in order to become more inclusive.

Tayto Park will be holding an Autism Awareness Day on Saturday, 14 April.

Organised in support of Autism Ireland, the event will raise awareness for the charity by transforming the park into an autism friendly environment from 9am to 12pm.

The intention is to allow parents and children to enjoy the park by playing no music, keeping queues to a minimum and having all hand dryers turned off.

Furthermore, €2 from each entry fee will be donated to Autism Ireland.

Visitors with autism will also be given a Social Story booklet to help break down the challenging social situations into steps and tasks that can be easily understood.

Throughout the day, ride access passes will not be issued due to the nature of the event.

Visitors are advised to notify staff at specific attractions if a member of any group may find it difficult to queue, with any needs being facilitated as best possible.

Tayto Park has also informed customers on the date to anticipate longer queues from 12pm onwards.

This follows news that Lidl Ireland announced that it would be rolling out weekly Autism Aware Quiet Evenings across all of its Irish stores during the month of April and May.
