Teenage motorcyclist dies after road crash in Dublin

Tragic news.

A 19-year-old male motorcyclist has died after a single-vehicle road crash in Dublin on New Year’s Day.

Shortly after 3.30pm on Saturday, emergency services attended at Sillogue Road in Ballymun following reports of a collision involving a motorcycle.

It is understood the 19-year-old was seriously injured when his bike struck a lamp post while travelling on the road.

He was pronounced dead at the scene a short time later.

The scene is being examined by Garda Forensic Collison investigators.

The road is currently closed at the crash site, with local diversions in place.

The man’s body has been taken to the Dublin City Morgue and the coroner has been notified.

Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to the collision to come forward.

Those with camera footage from the area at the time, including dashcam footage, are asked to make it available to Gardaí.
