The guys behind Paranormal Activity and The Purge are making an Irish horror film

Huge news for Irish film.

Blumhouse Productions has announced that it is teaming up with Irish production company ROADS Entertainment and Irish director Ciarán Foy, to make The Shee, an Irish horror movie.

The production company is behind such blockbuster franchises as The Purge and Paranormal Activity, as well as Insidious, Sinister and the Oscar-nominated Whiplash.

Foy won much critical acclaim for the 2012 movie Citadel, which he wrote and directed. Blumhouse have since put him at the helm of Sinister 2, and have now put him in charge of what is sure to be the most exciting movie to come out of Ireland in the next few years.

According to reports, The Shee is “an atmospheric story set in 1960s Ireland'”, telling ‘the story of a young woman who must confront her violent and tragic past when she travels to a remote island.’

Alan Maher, the CEO of ROADS entertainment has expressed his excitement at partnering with big-hitters Blumhouse, saying that he’s “delighted to continue my successful working relationship with Ciarán, which began more than a decade ago, and to collaborate with Blumhouse, the best genre producers in the world.”

Of the project itself, Maher said, “the Shee will be a thrilling and unique experience that will further establish Ciarán as one of the brightest talents in the industry.”
