The infamous ‘Mass’ Facebook page has done great work for Pieta House

Carl Kinsella

Turns out mass really can make a difference.

Since earlier on this week, our Facebook newsfeeds have been utterly consumed by updates on the ‘Mass’ event that almost 200,000 people have somehow ended up ‘attending’.

Posts to the page have varied from absolutely hilarious to breathtakingly unfunny, but one post in particular has certainly made the most positive impact.

According to the Irish Times, one man named Donall Burke decided to turn the page into something that was more than just a source of fun.

Burke said ““I saw a couple of people post in the mass event that were giving out about people making a mockery of mass and Jesus and all that. They were saying why don’t you do something useful with your time. That’s what made me think, they have a point”.

Burke made a post asking everyone messing around on the Mass event to donate €2 to suicide prevention charity Pieta House. His request did no go ignored, and Pieta confirmed that donations to their text number hit €5000 in the last couple of days.

If you would like to donate €2 to Pieta House, you can text PIETA to 50300.
