UPDATE: Death toll rises to 50 following mass shooting in Orlando

Shocking news…

There are reports that number of people have been shot at a nightclub in Orlando, Florida.

The shootings took place in Pulse nightclub, an LGBT nightclub, in the city in the early hours of Sunday morning.

The venue posted on their Facebook page for “Everyone to get out and keep running”.

Local media have reported that up to 20 twenty people have been shot but as of now, there’s been no confirmed fatalities.

A witness confirmed to Sky News that there was around 100 people in the club when gunman had entered the club and fired shots into the ceiling and the crowd. He was unable to confirm if there was multiple gunmen.

UPDATE:

Police have confirmed that the shooter involved in the attack has been shot dead inside the club.

They also revealed that they’re dealing with a mass casualty situation and they’ve carried out a controlled explosion on a device at the venue.

While they originally said that there were 20 people killed, that figure has now risen to 50 and a further 53 have been taken to hospital.

Florida police and SWAT ended a hostage situation with a lone gunman, killing him early this morning.

the gunman was later identified as Omar S. Mateen, a Florida resident.

The FBI have described the shootings in the nightclub as an act of terrorism.

It is one of America’s worst ever mass shootings.
