There’s even more horrible weather on the horizon

Carl Kinsella

Weather forecast

Hail. It’s like snow that hurts.

Starting this afternoon (17 December), the entire island of Ireland will be in the grips of a weather warning that will last until Tuesday morning. We’ve been warned that south to southeast winds will reach mean speeds between 50 and 65km/h and gusts between 90 and 100 km/h.

Unfortunately, the bad news doesn’t stop there…

According to Met Éireann, the rest of the week is set to be just as bad, with the meteorological service warning that we can expect that “there will be heavy rain over Ulster and Leinster on Tuesday morning followed by a clearance from the west to scattered showers and some sunny spells later. Some of the showers will be heavy with the risk of hail or thunder, especially in the west”.

Wednesday carries similar prospects, with Met Éireann forecasting that “showery rain will affect the west with some heavy thundery bursts likely”.

Thursday is set to be slightly better, with scattered showers and some sunny spells, but Friday will see a return to “persistent rain”.

With nary a mention of snow. White Christmas? More like… wet Christmas. Eh?
