The group has expanded their target from 25,000 posters to 40,000.

The Together for Yes campaign, a group which favours a repealing of the Eighth Amendment, has raised over €250,000 on Tuesday thanks to an online campaign set up to fund posters for the upcoming referendum.

Having launched the crowdfunding campaign at 8.30am on Tuesday morning (10 April), the initial target was to raise €50,000 in seven days, which would then be used to cover the cost of approximately 5,000 posters.

However, the glut of support that came in response resulted in the group surpassing their goal two hours afterwards, at which point the target was set for €250,000.

After 9pm on Tuesday, that target was reached thanks to the donations of approximately 6,500 supporters, enabling them to expand to 40,000 poster costing €400,000.

Responding to the news, the group wrote: “We know that there is huge demand for YES posters up and down the country so we are increasing our goal so that we can cover the country posters in as many as we can.

“We’ve got just over 6 weeks to get this over the line, this is a once in a generation opportunity so let’s give it everything we’ve got.”

The appeal was originally set up as a retaliation to the graphic posters hung around the country by groups in favour of protecting the Eighth Amendment.

Together for Yes claim that the “Vote No” side’s posters are scaremongering, misleading and riddled with incorrect facts.

The referendum on the Eighth Amendment has been set for Friday, 25 May.
