Holohan has asked the government for answers regarding a contract tracing issue.

Tony Holohan has penned a letter questioning Stephen Donnelly on a contact tracing issue.

The Chief Medical Officer drew attention to an issue relating to close contacts being advised to restrict movements.

It was agreed on 3 December that household contacts (also known as secondary contacts) of people identified as close contacts would be advised to restrict their movements until the close contact had received a ‘not detected’ result from their Day 0 test.

However, Holohan wrote that this has not been implemented by the HSE, and is seeking clarification as to why this is the case.

In the letter, he said: “The implementation of this particular aspect of the ECDC contact tracing guidelines will become of particular importance as households reform over the festive period.

“We will need to ensure that this important aspect of the public health response to Covid-19 is implemented in a manner consistent with ECDC guidance as soon as possible.”

He also said that he would be happy to discuss the matter further with Donnelly, the current Minister for Health.

It emerged earlier on Wednesday that a Cabinet Minister has tested positive for Covid-19, and that all Ministers are restricting their movements while awaiting a Covid test and result.
