Tsunami warning issued after earthquake strikes Japan

Breaking news.

An earthquake with a provisional magnitude of 7.2 has struck off the coast of Japan leading to a tsunami warning.

The warning has been issued for much of the country’s northern coast.

According to the Japanese Meteorological Agency, the epicenter of earthquake was off the coast of Fukushima prefecture at a depth of about 10 km.

Fukushima prefecture is north of Tokyo and home to the nuclear power plant that was destroyed by a tsunami in 2011 following an offshore earthquake.

Much of the northern coast of Japan are being urged to evacuate over fears of a tsunami.
