JOE

You just can’t beat a simple answer to a simple question. Joe Dooley may well be a knowledgeable man in hurling, but he also has great taste.

It is safe to assume that everyone – bar Kilkenny folk themselves – was happy to see the Dubs get the better of their more illustrious opponents in yesterday’s Leinster semi-final. Well maybe Tipp supporters aren’t too pleased either with such a daunting fixture in the qualifiers, but there is little doubt that it is for the good of the game in what has been a most exciting hurling championship in years.

Dublin now march into a provincial final where they will face Galway, but we could be in for the most fascinating hurling qualifier since the back-door was introduced and former Offaly player and manager Joe Dooley is eagerly looking forward to the game at Nowlan Park between the two rivals.

And when he was pressed on who would come out with the spoils next week, well his answer was quick, off-the-point and truly honest.

We have always respected the hurling legend, and we now appreciate his impeccable taste!
