Twitter has told their employees to work from home if possible as the company takes steps to help stop the spread of coronavirus.

The company currently employs close to 200 people in its offices in Dublin.

In a blog post, the social media giant said it was mandatory for staff in Hong Kong, Japan and South Korea to work remotely.

The company also said it was “strongly encouraging” all of its 5,000 employees around the world to not come into work.

“We are strongly encouraging all employees globally to work from home if they’re able,” Twitter’s head of human resources Jennifer Christie said.

“Our goal is to lower the probability of the spread of the COVID-19 coronavirus for us – and the world around us.

“We are operating out of an abundance of caution and the utmost dedication to keeping our Tweeps healthy.

“This policy is effective immediately and will continue until the World Health Organisation or Centers for Disease Control deem it appropriate to step back from pandemic precautionary measures or when a vaccine becomes available.”
