A statement is expected from the Education Minister at 4pm.

Two errors have been found in the Leaving Certificate calculated grades system, the Taoiseach told the Dáil on Wednesday.

Micheál Martin said Education Minister Norma Foley would make a comprehensive statement on the matter later today.

“The Department of Education and Skills has found, to my understanding, two errors in the Leaving Cert 2020 Calculated Grades,” Martin said.

“My understanding is that the Minister for Education will be making a comprehensive statement today in relation to this.”

It’s expected Foley will make a statement alongside a representative from the State Examinations Commission around 4pm.

Martin added that some students may boost their grades as a result of the changes but said the statement will cover what had occurred and the steps being taken to rectify the issues.

There’s no official word on the number of students the errors may affect, but RTÉ reported on Wednesday afternoon that “the errors identified by the Department affect around 10% of this year’s 61,000 Leaving Certificate students”.
