A man has died and one is seriously injured after being struck by a car in Letterkenny in the early hours of this morning, March 17.
The St Patrick’s Day parade due to take place at 3pm in the town has been cancelled as Gardaí have closed a number of roads following the overnight collision on the town’s Lower Main Street.
Two male pedestrians were rushed to Letterkenny University Hospital as a result of the single-vehicle collision.
The vehicle also hit a house, causing minor damage.
A male aged in his late teens who was driving the car was arrested at the scene.
He remains in Garda custody.
Due to an earlier interaction between the driver of the vehicle and An Garda Síochana, the incident has been referred to the Garda Síochána Ombudsman Commission.
The area has been sealed off by the Gardaí pending a technical examination.
They are appealing for any witnesses to the incident to come forward, particularly anybody who was in the area between Dry Arch Roundabout and Oldtown Road between 2.30am and 3.30am on this morning, Monday March 17.
