Two people have died in west Cork following a drowning incident

Sad news this evening.

A man and a woman drowned in west Cork this evening following an accident involving a walking group. The group were on a trail near Beacon at the mouth of the Baltimore when one of them fell into the sea. According to RTÉ, the second person, who died, and a third man jumped into the sea to rescue the first person, but all three then got into difficulty. The alarm was raised just before 8 o'clock by someone watching on the shore. Balitmore lifeboat recovered two bodies, they were pronounced dead shortly after the recovery while helicopters, local boats and divers are currently searching for the third person. Via RTÉ
