Number one won’t come as a huge surprise.

Leading the way on the list of the most valuable Irish brands for 2017, it probably won’t surprise you to learn, is Guinness, after its brand value grew 2% to €2 billion in the past year.

According to a report by Brand Finance on Thursday, the growth in Guinness’ brand value positions it among the ten most valuable beer brands in the world and the clear leader in the most valuable Irish brands.

In second place is Ryanair, which saw profits up by 43% to €1.2 billion in the twelve months to the end of March 2016, with the airline’s brand now valued at a cool €1.5 billion.

According to the Brand Finance report, Ryanair’s growth can be mainly attributed to the ‘Always Getting Better’ programme, launched in 2014.

“Ryanair had developed a reputation for poor service that appeared to verge on almost complete indifference to customer experience,” read the Brand Finance report.

“‘Always Getting Better’ saw a concerted effort to turn this perception around.”

AIB, the fastest growing Irish brand in the last year, also featured on the list, as did Bank of Ireland, XL Group, Smurfit Kappa, DCC and Jameson Group, with packaging solutions company Ardagh and building materials company Kingspan coming in at ninth and tenth place respectively.
