Dubai started off the New Year with a new world record after setting off over 100,000 fireworks in less than 60 seconds…

Kuwait set the record back in 2012 with 77,282 fireworks fired off in the first minute of their 2012 New Year’s show, but that was easily surpassed by Dubai’s attempt during the week.

Dubai’s 2014 fireworks show started off at the world famous Burj Khalifa and Burj Al Arab hotels before making its way along 94km shoreline. In total, over 500,000 fireworks were used to make the spectacular show, which was created by 200 technicians over a nine-month period.

Speaking about the display, the show’s designer Phil Grucci said, “Guinness Record officials did the initial audit during the show and confirmed that Dubai had broken the record. A final audit is currently going on that will confirm the number of shots we fired.”
