VIDEO: Extremely upsetting footage shows dolphins trying to escape from hunters in Japan

This is just barbaric...

Each year in Japan an annual dolphin hunt takes place from early September and lasts six months in the port of Taiji. The dolphins are captured either to be butchered for their meat, or else sold to aquariums. Around 2,000 dolphins are killed every year in the hunt according to Newsweek. Earlier this week, Ric O'Barry, who has made numerous efforts to stop the annual hunt by setting up The Dolphin Project, was there to witness the brutal spectacle. There is no other word to describe this other than barbaric, as a terrified dolphin beaches itself in a bid to escape from the cruel men who're hunting them with nets and boats. O'Barry outlines how this isn't a cultural thing and there is no historical importance for the event and says it's simply a terrible thing to witness. This is anguish," O'Barry says, crouching down by the tragic scene. "[He's] panic-stricken on the rocks, and I am heartbroken that I can't get in the water and help him away from ... he's tearing his skin up. This is awful."
